One day, in California, I won a 3rd place medal against the hardest teams, and I was so proud. “Are you girls ready for this?” This was my swim coach, Brittany, talking as we walked to the bleachers. I was at a synchronized swim meet in Orange County, California. Before we arrived we knew these teams would be good, but not that good. My duet partner, Dani and I were sitting on the cold, metal bleachers with our other teammates and our coach, telling ourselves we wouldn't be upset if we didn't win. We waited until the duets and listened and cheered for all the other duets that were winning. When the announcer got to our age group, we huddled together, breathing heavily. The announcer started at 8th place and then moved up. When we hadn't been called at 5th place, we lost all hope. Suddenly, we had the surprise of our life. The announcer called out, “And in 3rd place, from Rocky Mountain Splash in Colorado, Dani and Rylie!!”
